Awards and support programmes

With the intention of supporting and boosting creation and technological innovation, the development of which entails consolidating a culture of innovation and the modernisation of the business fabric in the Basque Country, by creating new businesses and developing those already in existence, the Entreprenari Programme promotes the annual Manuel Laborde Werlinden Award.

Objectives

  1. To promote entrepreneurial ideas and projects in the University environment.
  2. To boost the University’s innovative potential through creating and developing new business initiatives.
  3. To support the development of new initiatives by contributing economic resources and expert advisory services in business creation and management. The following types of projects are considered to be innovative:
  • New science/technology-based companies.
  • Specific knowledge-intensive companies, aimed at emerging sectors.

Aimed at

  • Teachers and research staff at the UPV/EHU and/or collaborating centres.
  • People who are enrolled, or who have already graduated with an official qualification from the UPV/EHU (Degree, Diploma, Engineering qualification, Architecture qualification, Master’s degree and similar).
  • Companies that wish to exploit the results of a research study carried out in conjunction with the UPV/EHU or collaborating centres.
Awards

The FIRST PRIZE consists of:

  • A sum of 7,000 euros in cash.
  • Up to 60,000 euros by way of the grants and aid managed by BIC GIPUZKOA and organised by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa Department of Economic Promotion, Rural Environment and Territorial Balance and the SPRI Agency of the Basque Government Department of Economic Development and Infrastructure (TXEKINTEK/ EKINTZAILE and BARNETEKIN programmes) to support the development and start-up of those projects.
  • In the event of being allocated a space at the “Joxe Mari Korta” Centre, you will not need to pay any fees for the first year of your stay at said centre for projects classified as innovative or science/technology-based.

The SECOND PRIZE consists of:

  • A sum of 3,000 euros in cash.
  • Up to 60,000 euros by way of the grants and aid managed by BIC GIPUZKOA and organised by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa Department of Economic Promotion, Rural Environment and Territorial Balance and the SPRI Agency of the Basque Government Department of Economic Development and Infrastructure (TXEKINTEK / EKINTZAILE and BARNETEKIN programmes) to support the development and start-up of those projects.

Both prizes will also come with:

  • Media coverage: UPV/EHU and BIC GIPUZKOA websites, Campusa university magazine, newsletters from the Spanish and European network of the European Business and Innovation Centres ANCES and EBN.
  • A trophy referring to the award.
